The Mopheads of Mt. Rainier: A Photographic Study of Anemone occidentalis

Wildflower enthusiast and amateur photographer Donovan Tracy will present a photographic essay on the Anemone occidentalis which captures the essence of Mt. Rainier's mopheads.  He will trace the entire life cycle of the anemone showing how it grabs our attention and peaks our curiosity, and why it is affectionately known as the "old man of the mountain."  The talk will also include some historical references, comments on photographic techniques and tips on great wildflower hikes in the Park.

Donovan is an amateur photographer with a special interest in wildflower photography. He is a volunteer with the University of Washington Herbarium at the Burke Museum, and co-author of the wildflower guide, Alpine Flowers of Mount Rainier, with David Giblin, the Herbarium’s collection manager. He developed and maintains the website Flowers of Rainier (www.flowersofrainier.com) which features over 230 species and 12 wildflower hikes.
